In this unit, we have learned about analyzing nonfiction text and film in order understand how people argue, how to analyze articles development of arguments, and how to create our own arguments. In this project, you will be combining those skills with our exploration of environmental concerns through a brochure. Attach this page to your brochure.
You will randomly receive an environmental issue that specifically affects North Carolina.
You are to read articles that cover this topic (by your own research).
You are to analyze each article and its argument using the graphic organizer provided.
You will construct a Thesis Statement to argue that the issue needs action.
You are to create a brochure on the particular topic that argue FOR nature, sustainability, etc.
It is highly recommended to work in groups for this project (no more than 4 people), though you may work independently if you so choose. Working together is the only way to solve large scale issues. If working in groups, each person must analyze one source using the graphic organizer.
Use Microsoft Publisher and type in search bar: Brochure.
Choose one of the 6 panel brochures.
Cite your work on brochure or separate page
This is the version of the brochure that I will be looking at to grade
Do NOT use PowerPoint or other applications
To create an uploadable version for turnitin.com:
Microsoft publisher can't be uploaded to turnitin.com
To problem slove, copy and paste your text from the brochure to a word document, or into turnitin.com
Ensure your bibliography is also included.
Formatting for turnitin.com is not important; I am using this tool to check for plagarism issues.
REMEMBER: 60% of your brochure's grade is the text, or in this case, you answering the four questions. Be sure you spend most of your time gathering resources and answering those questions and less time formatting and decorating the brochure. Be sure your citations are correct (including pictures!) and you have a works cited page!
If you forgot your turnitin.com password: Go through the "forgot my password" questions
Want to make a brochure on a different topic concerning North Carolina? Listed are a variety of animal concerns, habitat concerns, conservation, pollution, and energy problems. Obviously, there are too many to list! If you have something your passionate about, and/or want to learn more about that's not listed, just ask! Be sure that it is envrionmentally related and that it specifically affects North Carolina.
